Your association is proud to announce the availability of two scholarships for Maine students attending college in Maine.

The John N. Lagerstrom Memorial Farm Credit Scholarship provides up to three annual scholarships of at least $1,000 to students enrolled in the University of Maine system. At least one scholarship is awarded to a student attending the University of Maine Presque Isle campus. Additional awards, depending upon availability of funds, are awarded to students attending any other University of Maine campus.

Originally known as the Farm Credit of Aroostook Scholarship Fund, the newly named fund is administered by the Foundation of the University of Maine at Presque Isle with a Farm Credit representative sitting on the selection committee.

Award selection is based on the following criteria. Recipients must be:

  • Maine residents
  • enrolled in at least their second semester at a University of Maine campus
  • the child or grandchild of a current or former Farm Credit of Maine stockholder, including board of directors, OR the child or grandchild of a current or retired Farm Credit of Maine employee
  • a student with significant promise to meet his/her lifetime goals.

Financial need is not a requirement. Applications are available in the financial aid offices at all University of Maine campuses. Deadline for all applications is March 1, 2007. University of Maine campus representatives will notify recipients.

The Farm Credit of Maine 4-H Scholarship is the annual $1,000 scholarship to the Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation. The Foundation awards the scholarship to a top 4-H applicant in support of a postsecondary education at any Maine school.

The scholarship recipient will be:

  • a current 4-H member and top 4-H'er
  • a Maine resident
  • a student whose objective is to major in a field related to commercial farming, fishing or forest products or in another field with the intent to work in business related to these industries.

Students having a direct affiliation with Farm Credit of Maine are eligible to apply. Financial need is not a requirement. Application deadline is the second Friday in March—March 9, 2007.
